In pursuit of maximum engine efficiency leading automakers are finding new solutions. Unconditional breakthrough was the engine company Infiniti – VC-T with a variable compression ratio, which allows to adjust this indicator in the range from 8: 1 to 14: 1.
VC-T is a two-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged internal combustion engine with the ability to adjust the stroke of the piston in the above-mentioned range. The engine changes the compression ratio depending on the load on it: the higher it is, the higher the productivity. With low load, the engine is extremely economical.
Such an effect specialists Infiniti managed to achieve, using a lever that changes the angle of the system, somewhat resembling a rocker connected to the shaft. On the left, the connecting rod is attached to the shaft, and on the right is the lever controlled by the electric drive. Moving, the lever changes the position of the connecting rod relative to the crankshaft, thereby adjusting the compression ratio in the range of 8: 1 to 14: 1.
The novelty will be presented at the next International Paris Motor Show in late September.
